Abstract: To protect a species, we must understand where it lives. Unfortunately, we only have professional range maps for a relatively small fraction of species in limited areas, many of which are out of date by the time they are released. At the same time, community science platforms like iNaturalist are collecting more species observation data than ever before. This talk will discuss how noisy crowdsourced data can be combined with machine learning to enable efficient global-scale species mapping.
