Visual object tracking, a key challenge in computer vision, is crucial for analyzing athlete performance in videos. This talk explores our experience applying such algorithms to track skiers. Skiing poses unique challenges: athletes in motion with variable equipment, high speeds, and constantly changing terrain in harsh winter conditions. Further, large ski courses necessitate multiple cameras with transitions, creating videos with cuts. We'll evaluate how existing tracking algorithms perform under these conditions and explore how tracking data can be used for high-level analysis of skiing trajectories, both in real-world scenarios and with dedicated hardware.
